The 27th General Conference of the World Fellowship of Buddhists was officially inaugurated in Baoji City, Shaanxi Province, on October 16.
A total of over 4,000 people, including senior Buddhists, domestic and foreign distinguished guests, and all sorts of Buddhist practitioners, from more than 30 countries and regions around the world gathered in Famen Temple, one of Buddhism's sacred places, to celebrate one of Buddhism's most prestigious events in the world.
Yu Zhengsheng, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, sent a letter of congratulation to the conference.
Situated in Fufeng County, Baoji City, Famen Temple is noted for the Buddhist finger relics preserved there, which is believed to be from the physical body of Gautama Buddha. It was an imperial temple in ancient China.
