Chinese contestant Mayuki (Ma Xue) won the gold medal in women's StarCraft group at World E-sport Championship (WEC) 2014 in Azerbaijan. This is the highest achievement that female Chinese contestants had in the WEC in years.
Mayuki belongs to Team Zoo. She comes from southwest China’s Chengdu, and is only 24 years old. At semifinals, Mayuki defeated Russian contestant Aurelia 2-1. Mayuki fought arduously with Finnish Soyhi for five hours in the final, and eventually won the 2,500 U.S. dollars prize. Jim, the male Chinese contestant lost to Swedish contestant Zanster in quarter-finals. S. Korean contestant Zest is the final winner of men's game.
Mayuki's achievement is a breakthrough in the history of China's E-sport championships. The significance will be eulogized.
