DUSHANBE, Dec. 16 -- Tajikistan has seized a total of 2.5 tons of narcotics in an anti-drug operation since May, authorities said Tuesday.
The operation, dubbed Poppy-2014, was conducted from May 20 to Nov. 30 to detect and destroy areas cultivating drug-containing plants in the Central Asian nation, the Drug Control Agency said.
At least 193 cases had been recorded on wild hemp covering a total area of 3.7 hectares, and more than 1 billion drug-containing plants destroyed, it added.
The Poppy operation, held annually in Tajikistan, aims to strengthen cooperation and coordination among law enforcement bodies to curb production, transportation and sale of drugs in the country.
