SHENYANG, Dec. 29-- A memorial hall for the Korean War in northeast China's Liaoning province closed on Monday for expansion, local sources said.H Covering 182,475 square meters, the memorial hall in Dandong, which overlooks the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), was first built in 1958, five years after the Korean War finished.
An annex building was built in 1993. To date, the memorial hall has received more than 10 million visitors. But facilities are outdated, said the curator Yang Guang.
He said the expansion work would take about two years. "Those who are interested in the memorial hall can visit our website," Yang said.
The Chinese People's Volunteer Army fought side by side with the DPRK army in the 1950-53 Korean War against the South Korean army and U.S.-led UN forces. Tens of thousands of Chinese soldiers died on the Korean Peninsula during the war, which ended in an armistice.
