5. E-retail is maintaining high growth. Cross-border e-commerce is growing in popularity.
Statistics from 5000 significant retail enterprises supervised by the Ministry of Commerce of China show that e-shopping increased by 33.3 per cent in the first 11 months in 2014 and the retail revenues of these units increased by 55.9 per cent.
E-shopping experienced high growth in 2014. "Haitao", meaning "shop abroad", has become a buzzword. Comprehensive e-commerce platforms including Taobao and Amazon and vertical e-commerce platforms involved in cosmetics and mother and child products are engaged in cross-border business.
According to data released by the General Administration of Customs, the total volume of individual cross-border e-shopping for 2014 could surpass 200 billion yuan.
