Ji Jianye, former mayor of Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, stood trial in Yantai Intermediate People's Court in east China's Shandong Province at 8:30 a.m. this morning.
He was expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) last January and brought under investigation by prosecutors later.
A statement from the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection revealed that Ji took advantage of his position to seek benefits for others, receiving a huge amount of money and gifts either by himself or through his family members.
Ji was the first "tiger" (means senior corrupt official) hunted in Jiangsu after the 18th CPC National Congress in November, 2012.
