The Tokyo-centered Pacific Coast urban agglomeration in Japan, also known as Tokaido urban agglomeration, includes Chiba, Tokyo, Yokohama, Shizuoka, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe and Nagasaki. The belt stretches 1,000 kilometers from the northeast to the southwest, occupying 6 percent of Japan’s total territory. The population of the area is approximately 70 million, accounting for 60 percent of the nation’s population.
