FUZHOU, Feb. 11 -- Eight Taiwanese suspects were formally detained in Fujian Province on Wednesday for allegedly attempting to smuggle 251 kilograms of ketamine from the mainland to the island.
Border police in Xiamen City intercepted the attempt on Jan. 4, when the gang had concealed the narcotics in 12 bags and were attempting to transport the haul from Xiamen to Taiwan via sea.
The border police in Fujian have been paying particular attention to drug trafficking from Fujian to Taiwan.
In 2014, police in Fujian uncovered six Taiwan-related drug cases, seizing 1,124 kg of drugs and 805 kg of production paraphernalia.
