| China is taking steps to have the Joint Terraces in Youxi County, southeastern China's Fujian Province included on the list of the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS). The Joint Terraces include terraced fields of eight natural villages in Youxi and stretch about 1,667 acres. People began to cultivate the terraces about 1,300 years ago.
