
NANCHANG, May 19 -- Seven people have been killed in landslides and house collapses caused by torrential rain in east China's Jiangxi Province since Monday.
The downpour has flooded 13,810 hectares of farmland, and destroyed hundreds of homes, forcing almost 10,000 to leave their homes.
Average precipitation in the province as of 3 p.m. Tuesday hit35.2 mm. Reading at a monitoring station in southeast Jiangxi has reached 375.9 mm.
Heavy rains are expected to continue in central and southern parts of the province for the next 24 hours, with precipitation of up to 200 mm.
