

"We slept on river banks , ate forage, and fought the Japanese," says Chai Liang, 95.
He gave up being a writer and joined the army in 1944. He went to Burma to fight the Japanese. After the victory, he became a health care worker; nowadays he still helps to do some medical translation works.
