LONDON June 2 (People's Daily Online)—— From 20 June to 1 November 2015, Britain’s original sculptor Laura Ford will present the first ever exhibition of contemporary art to be held at Strawberry Hill, Horace Walpole's Gothic villa in Twickenham.
Many of Laura Ford’s works in this show have been inspired by the history and unique atmosphere of Strawberry Hill, the stimulus for Horace Walpole’s The Castle of Otranto (1765) – considered to be the first Gothic novel. The house was originally conceived as a sequence of theatrical spaces, which makes it the perfect setting for Ford’s sculpture which has a distinct fairy-tale quality.
At Strawberry Hill, she will present a body of specially commissioned sculptures and works chosen from across her career. Outside, her ‘Weeping Girls’ will be throwing a tantrum in the Prior’s Garden. Inside the house, new works will include a specially designed group of Waldegrave poodles based on Reynolds’ famous portrait of The Ladies Waldegrave which originally hung here.
