"Although I am more familiar with Chinese yangko (a popular rural folk dance), while Secretary Lew may know American hip-hop dancing better, different types of dance enrich the stage performance. And the languages of dance also share something in common. Dialogues bridge communication. No matter it is a solo dance, a duet, or a group dance with both sides involved, China and the US will be benefited from it."
At the 7th China-US Strategic & Economic Dialogue in Washington DC on June 23, Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang opened his speech with a metaphor, using dance as an analogy for the China-US relationship. This is the second time for Wang to cochair the China-US Strategic & Economic Dialogue in Washington DC.
In his brief but clear themed speech, Wang calls for "better dialogues" between China and the US. "Consensus and divergence coexist in the China-US relationship. If economic cooperation is the ballast and propeller for the China-US relationship, then Secretary Lew and I would be the two operators," said Wang. He notes that as long as China and the US can sit down and talk about economic cooperation and disparities control, positive market signals will be sent and more business opportunities will be created for companies.
Wang mentions that it is normal to have disparities between China and the US since economic cooperation means exchange of interests. "There is an old saying in China that even reckoning makes long friends, not to mention the interests of two countries," he says.
