Chinese President Xi Jinping invited Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to participate in celebrations in Beijing this September to mark the 70th anniversary of victory in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1939-1945), deputy foreign minister Cheng Guoping said on Friday.
"I would like to announce that President Xi Jinping has also sent his invitation to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to attend the celebration activities," Cheng told reporters at a briefing after three-day summits of BRICS and SCO countries hosted by Russia.
Cheng said that leaders of the other Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) members have already confirmed their attendance at China's activities to mark the victory against Japanese aggression. The SCO members include China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The events will be held on 3rd September.
