
ANKARA, July 19 -- At least 74 people were killed and 375 others injured in traffic accidents across Turkey during the four-day long Eid al-Fitr holiday, private Dogan News Agency reported on Sunday.
The reports said about seven million people hit the road throughout the holiday, mostly heading to the Aegean and southern resort provinces of the country.
On Wednesday, 16 were killed and 145 others injured in 17 different crashes across Turkey, while on Thursday, the eve of Eid al-Fitr, 21 accidents killed 23 and injured 76 others.
On Friday, about 16 were killed and 55 others injured in 18 different accidents. During the weekend, 19 were killed and 99 others injured in 23 accidents.
The death toll in traffic accidents are especially high in Turkey during religious holidays, as in the last Eid al-Adha in October 2014, 68 people were killed and 367 others injured in traffic accidents.
