According to a report by China Association for Employment Promotion, by the end of 2014, online shops have directly provided over 10 million job positions. Among them, online shops opened by college students offered 6.18 million jobs.
According to the report, about 5.4 million college students have opened online shops. Of all the online shops, the number of self-supported shops opened by college students takes 16.4 percent; the number of self-supported and also hired employees shops opened by college students takes 13.5 percent; 9.4 percent are part-time shops run by part-time college students with other employees, and 20.4 percent are part-time shops are run by college students without other employees.
The report also reveals that of all the online shops opened by college students, 61 percent of them are run by males; 71 percent of these college students only have online shop; 19.6 percent of the online shops are directly registered by college students themselves.
Under the background of advocating starting up one’s own business with innovation, opening an online shop has become an approachable first step for college students. Based on the report, over 70 percent of the college student online shop owners wish the government will give more supports and policies for online employment; over 40 percent students hope to have supports on tax relief; and 30 percent student shop owners wish they can have more convenient logistics and distribution service.
