The oasis area in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the region suffers the worst desertification in China, has increased from accounting for 4.3 percent of its total area in 1950 to 9.7 percent now, according to Xinjiang Aksu Farmland Ecosystem Field Scientific Observation and Research Station of Chinese Academy of Science, People's Daily Online reported.
Through systematic environment engineering that has lasted for decades, Xinjiang has successfully reversed the trend of desertification, turning more deserts into oasis.
