CHENGDU, Aug. 20 -- Eleven people have died and 13 others are missing after heavy rain battered southwest China's Sichuan Province.
The rain and floods since Sunday have affected 564,000 people in16 counties of six cities, with Xuyong county of Luzhou City suffering the most, according to the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters on Tuesday.
The deaths and all of the missing people were reported in Xuyong. Mudslides on Monday morning destroyed 35 homes and cut off power, telecommunications and roads in the area.
Police officers, armed police and firemen are searching for the missing.
