The students from Hunan College of Foreign Studies were asked to watch a collective "punishment education" on the playground around 10 am on September 15. More than 20 freshmen girls were ordered to lie on the ground and bathe in the sunshine in quilts. The highest temperature reached 30 degree Celsius on the day.

"The instructors will check if we were fully covered by quilts," said Liu Min(pseudonym), one of the girls who got the punishment. The punishment lasted for less than 10 minutes.

According to Xie Yong, deputy director of student work of the college, the students were punished for untidy dormitory, however, there's no improvement after the punishment.

Before the sunshine punishment, some students were also ordered to run on the playground with a plastic bucket on head and body covered in quilts. Some students were asked to witness the punishment as well.

"The punishment may hurt the feeling of the students," said Xie, who had talked with the chief Instructor for the military training on Sept. 15. He said the college will arrange psychological counseling for the students who have received the punishment.
