The odd tree
An odd tree with half withered leaves and half new leaves has attracted a lot of visitors. The tree located on Qingshan Island, Xiangyin county, central China's Hunan province is named "longevity tree" by local people.
Qingshan Island is located in the northernmost part of Xiangyin, which possesses rich animals and plants and resources. The vegetation and forest coverage rate has reached more than 70 percent.
The tree remains green throughout the year, even in cold winters. However, the leaves fall in turns half by half every five to ten years, sometimes from the east half and sometimes from the west half.
The odd sight attracts a lot of plant experts from domestic scientific research institutions. Experts from Hunan Forestry Department said after the investigation that the tree hasn't been discovered in other places in Hunan province. It may be another new species.
