TIANJIN, Oct. 14 -- Companies that handle dangerous chemicals will be moved to Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone following a deadly warehouse explosion in mid-August, local authorities said.

The government of Binhai New Area in Tianjin has launched a series of measures to promote the development of the area, including relocating companies that handle dangerous chemicals or goods.

Located in the south of Binhai New Area in Tianjin, Nangang Industrial Zone is at least 30 kilometers from the explosion site, and 10 kilometers from the nearest residential area.

With an area of 200 square kilometers, Nangang aims to become a world-class port and base for the heavy chemical industry.

Meanwhile, a third-party organization will be authorized to enact and release evaluation reports on the environment, safety and ecology.

Other measures to promote development include signing contracts for over 40 industrial and infrastructure projects in the fourth quarter this year, putting more than 50 projects into operation and carrying out 100 new projects.

The Binhai New Area in Tianjin has launched safety inspections on companies that handle dangerous chemicals or goods following the warehouse blasts that caused grave casualties in mid-August.

The safety checks will continue to the end of this year and target enterprises that produce, store or use dangerous chemicals, as well as companies that transport dangerous goods.

The local government will increase housing land supply and stabilize housing prices in the core area to meet the needs of those who were affected by the blasts.

The damaged buildings near the explosion site are undergoing repairs and will be completed on time, said the authority.
