Is it really true that Chinese school uniforms are hideous? If so, not for much longer! A school uniform design contest hosted by the Education Bureau of Guangzhou was held at a shopping mall on Oct. 18, 2015. The outstanding designs from this contest will be selected as future school uniforms in Guangzhou.

There are various styles of school uniform designs: British style suits, Chinese style vintage student outfits, fashionable wind coats, Kung fu costumes, and even ethnic style clothing etc. Students and parents are all very excited to see so many trendy selections.

Since June over 180,000 people have participated in the school uniform design contest. The contestants’ work will be evaluated both by public judges and professional judges. The variety and local features reflected from the design works in the contest have shown people’s awareness on the culture and aesthetic importance a school uniform carries, said a judge at the contest.

In the meantime the Education Bureau of Guangzhou has sent out 240,000 questionnaires asking people's opinion on school uniforms and set up regulations for the quality and management of school uniforms. "The winning designs of this contest will be selected by schools in Guangzhou and hopefully soon students will be wearing brand new trendy school uniforms," said Cui Xuejun, the deputy director of Guangzhou's Education Bureau.
