On the Saint Lucia Estuary in South Africa, a young hippo was saved by its mother while getting attacked by vicious male, and later had a piggy back to shore.
The baby hippo was attacked by another male while its mother came to fight the male attacker to save her baby.
The hippo was born out of season, and the photographer said he was “by far the youngest and smallest baby”.
Hippo bulls are very territorial and regard even their own sons as a threat, while play-fighting among youngsters is common.
Later the mother swam away from the fight with the youngster on her back before dropping him off safely away from danger.(China Youth Daily)
