A series of U.S. military actions goes against the common and long-term interests of countries in the region, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson at a press conference on Tuesday.

According to a report by BBC, the U.S. has deployed a P-8 Poseidon spy plane to Singapore for the first time.

Furthermore, the U.S. Department of Defense said on Monday that they would base a naval patrol aircraft in Singapore starting this week. It seems that the aircraft will take part in patrols over the South China Sea.

In response to this issue, Hua Chunying, Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said at the conference that the overall situation in the South China Sea is peaceful and stable. An overwhelming majority of countries hope for peace, stability, development and prosperity of East Asia. Countries in the region and from around the world all aspire for peace, cooperation and development.

Hua said that weather the U.S. military deployment and regional militarization is in line with the aspiration shared by countries in the region is worth pondering.

It is hoped that all relevant parties will do more to genuinely enhance mutual trust among countries in the region and safeguard peace and development of the region, Hua added. 

In a joint statement after a meeting in Washington on Monday, US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and Singapore Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen welcomed the inaugural deployment of the aircraft in Singapore from Monday to December 14.

The statement said the aircraft's deployment in Singapore would "promote greater interoperability with regional militaries through its participation in bilateral and multilateral exercises."

A US defense official said further deployments in Singapore could be expected. The US already operates P-8s from Japan and the Philippines.
