In 2015, Xi’an High-tech Industrial Development Zone (or XHTZ for short) accounted for 66% and 70% of the gross output and the revenues of all high-tech zones in Shaanxi respectively, translating into an annual increase of over 10% in either case. In other words, XHTZ laid a solid foundation for the sustained growth of all high-tech zones in Shaanxi.
Moreover, the number of national high-tech zones in Shaanxi rose to 7, and so did the number of its provincial ones. According to statistics from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the 7 national high-tech zones generated 1,269.102 billion yuan in revenues and 1,025.005 billion yuan in industrial output, amounting to an annual increase of over 10% in either case; these zones produced 456.249 billion yuan in goods and services, a level that amounts to 25.11% of the entire province's contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP), which is 1,817.186 billion yuan. It is fair to say that these high-tech zones have already become a ‘new engine’ powering the province's effort to develop itself into an innovation-savvy province and make great leaps in introducing innovations and developing its economy.
