
URUMQI, April 4 -- Three people were killed, one person was injured and seven more were trapped after a coal mine collapsed Sunday afternoon in west China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, local authorities said Monday.
A total of 19 people were working in the mine when part of the coal mine collapsed at around 2:50 p.m. in Shache County, the regional coal mine safety inspection authorities said.
Eight people managed to escape. Bodies of the killed have been retrieved. Rescue work is underway, it added.
