Jia grew up in Yunnan province, where he often played with his friends in the woods. Starting in 2008 when he was a graduate student, Jia developed the idea of making DIY wooden crafts. Gradually Jia found that making wooden crafts was quite therapeutic. Similar to meditation, it helped him to maintain a positive outlook. As a result, Jia decided to open a workshop. Friends now call Jia the “healing carpenter.”
