They're all centred around a palatial structure - the Larung Gar Buddhist Institute.

The school, situated in the remote Gharze Prefecture of ??Sichuan? province, southest ??China?, is the largest of its kind in the world and where many devout followers flock to learn about the religion.

Jesse Earl Rockwell, 32, from Santa Barbara, ??California?, spent six days in the area to photograph this incredible sprawling hillside habitation.
