
On June 14, Shenzhen Huanggang Customs busted seven people for taping 580 mobile phones on their bodies and attempting to pass customs. The 580 phones were all either newest model iPhones or Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, with a total worth over 1.3 million yuan.
On Tuesday, officials of Shenzhen Huanggang Customs noticed a man aged 40 to 50 walking suspiciously. After inspection, there was nothing abnormal found in his bag or wallet. But when he passed the metal detector, the alarm went off. It turned out the man had another “metal belt” made of 16 mobile phones inside of his broad belt. He also taped 29 mobiles on his thighs and shanks.
Within five minutes, Customs officials busted another six suspects with multiple phones taped to them, totaling to 580 mobile phones worth 1.3 million yuan.
After investigation, it was known that these seven tourists all had a history of illegally carrying items through customs, some even had just been punished for smuggling iPhones through customs. The case now is pending further investigation.
