A community resident surnamed Lin in Fuzhou posted photos of a weird looking crab on Weibo last Thursday, looking for answers to what kind of creature it was. According to Lin, the crab fell from the sky and got captured in a dustpan, one resident even thought about baking it.
Some netizens recognized it and said it is called coconut crab and generally lives on islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The coconut crab is an endangered and protected creature. Netizens speculated that the crab probably was kept as a pet. At 2 p.m., a man surnamed Li post comment on Weibo, claiming that the coconut crab belongs to him.
Now Li has gotten his “pet” back. It is surprising that the crab survived from falling from the 5th floor, only with a little dent on its abdomen. According to Li, who is especially interested in hermit crabs, this coconut crab is also a type of hermit crab from the Indonesian Islands where it is not a protected animal and is allowed to be exported. Li also explained that the coconut crab is also not a protected animal in China and that it is very rare to see it.
