On July 7 in the city of Shiyan, Hubei province, a huge piece of turquoise attracted a great deal of attention from local residents. The turquoise is in an irregular shape and is nearly 120 centimeters long, weighing 215 kilograms.
The turquoise was found several days ago in Zhushan county, and was just shipped to the city of Shiyan. It is both the largest and purest piece of turquoise discovered in recent years.
Turquoise is one of China's precious "national four jades," and 60 percent of turquoise in the world comes from Shiyan. Depending on the quality, turquoise can be even more valuable than gold. This particular piece of turquoise is worth tens of millions of yuan.
