A 37-year-old Hong Kong woman named Candace Ku spends more time than average assembling her daughters' school lunches. Ku's lunches, however, are special. Ku embellishes the bento boxes with sausages, kelp and cheese, carefully assembling the contents of the boxed lunches so they resemble different cartoon figures.
Learning that her older daughter was having trouble making friends after transferring to a new school, Ku quickly began making her elaborate bentos. Before long, her daughter made many new friends, with the lunches acting as a conversation starter.
Ku now has 43,000 followers on social media, and each photo that she posts of the bentos receives more than 1,000 likes.
