A Shanghai resident named Wu Gencheng has been running a scallion pancake shop for the last 34 years. Unlike the hundreds of other scallion pancakes being sold around the city, Wu's pancakes were once featured on a BBC food show.

While unemployed in 1982, Wu started to sell scallion pancakes in nearby markets and temporary stalls near to where he lived. Slowly but surely, his secret formula has made his pancake shop one of the most celebrated and famous food stalls in all of Shanghai.

The pancakes are sold for 5 yuan ($0.74) each, and every customer is allowed to buy a maximum of 10. Many of Wu's customers travel long distances just to enjoy his delicacies. He said he has stuck with the exact same formula for the past 34 years, since even a subtle change could alter the beloved flavor.
