NICOSIA, June 7 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition of China's Sichuan province was inaugurated here on Wednesday as a means of promoting contacts between China and Cyprus.
The event is part of a series of activities planned by the Chinese embassy with the aim of cultivating contacts and better understanding of the two peoples in the context of promoting the Belt and Road Initiative.
Cypriot Education Minister Costas Kadis said the Sichuan exhibition was timely, and in line with the goals of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation which he attended in Beijing in May.
He added that a wide variety of activities in the field of culture, including exchange of experts, training, information and the organization of cultural events is provided for by the 2014-2018 executive program of cultural cooperation between Cyprus and China.
China's Ambassador to Cyprus Huang Xingyuan said the exhibition deepens the friendly relations between China and Cyprus and strengthens the cooperation between China and Europe under the Belt and Road framework.
The Sichuan picture exhibition presented the province in three thematic sections: scenic beauties, cultural heritage, and its open and inclusive nature.
