China on July 31 concluded its rotating presidency of the UN Security Council for the month of July. Under the month-long Chinese presidency, the Security Council, which is the most powerful UN body, convened more than 30 meetings, adopted four resolutions and four presidential statements, and issued seven press statements. In July, China succeeded in holding two open debates on "enhancing African capacities in the areas of peace and security" and on the Mideast, namely the Israeli-Palestinian problem. The Security Council also discussed the issues of Syria, Yemen, South Sudan, Colombia, Libya, Cyprus and the Korean Peninsula. (Xinhua/Li Muzi)
