Maoer Hutong
Located in Jiaodaokou Street in Dongcheng District, Maoer Hutong stretches from Nanluoguxiang Lane in the east to Di'anmen Avenue in the west and connects with the Doujiao Hutong in the west and Dongbuyaqiao Hutong in the south. The area dates from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) when it was called the Wenchang Gong, a Taoist temple honoring the spirit belonging to the sixth of China's 28 constellations. The current name came into use during the succeeding Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) as there are many hat workshops in the street at the time.
