The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission announced recently that Xi'an High-tech Industrial Zone was approved to be a National Low-Carbon Pilot Zone. Among the 55 National Low Carbon Industrial pilot zones, Xi'an High-tech Zone is the only one in Shaanxi Province.
The National Low-Carbon Pilot Zones were selected by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission. The number will be increased to 80 in 2015.
Xi'an High-tech Zone has built the first ISO14000 demonstration zone in west China. It also started the construction of energy-saving and environmental protection industry parks and strived to create a circular economy and low carbon operation mechanism, with the goal of decreasing the carbon dioxide emission by 17 percent in 2015 and becoming the leading new low-carbon industrial zone in China.
