JIAYUGUAN, June 18 (People's Daily Online) –With implementation of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, there are increasing cooperation in tourism between west China and countries in Central Asia and in west Asia, He Xiaozu, Deputy director of Gansu Provincial Tourism Administration told People’s Daily Online.
He added that the construction of “Silk Road Economic Belt” helps to bring more people from countries along “One Belt, One Road” to west China, especial Gansu by strengthening bilateral cooperation in tourism and commerce.
The world-known ancient Silk Road stretched 1600 kilometers in West China’s Gansu province which is abound in tourist resources including Mogao Grottos, Yardang National Geologic Park and Jiayuguan. The initiative of “One Belt, One Road” again attracted world attention to Gansu.
But Gansu is still confronted with difficulties in developing tourism. As He Xiaozu pointed out, one of biggest difficulties is that it has not a relatively sound traffic. Gansu is a vast area but there is relatively small numbers of flights and train services. This causes inconvenience for tourists coming to Gansu from home and abroad.
Given the difficulties, Gansu has set out its plans to promote its tourism development under the implementation of “One Belt, One Road”.
He Xiaozu said that Gansu is sparing no efforts to improving transportation and other tourist facilities. Three international flights, for instance, will be opened in Lanzhou, capital of Gansu this year. In addition, the province is also trying to develop scenic spots and improve the administration of the spots. To increase its popularity, it also attaches importance to tourism promotion. Gansu, for example, opened the fifth Dunhuang Tour-Silk Road International Festival on June 16, 2015 which has played a important role in promoting local tourism.
