Famous Chinese director Zhang Yimou is a possible candidate to direct the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, Xi'an Evening News has reported.
Zhang received accolades for his direction of a promotional video called Joyful Rendezvous Upon Pure Ice and Snow to help Beijing win its bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Divided into four chapters, the video showcases the capital's winter scenery, construction plans for the Games, China's development in winter sports, and traditional culture.
Although it remains uncertain who will direct the opening ceremony of the Games, a large number of online commentators have picked Zhang as their top candidate.
In 2001, Zhang directed the official promotional video for Beijing's 2008 Olympic Games bid, for which he went on to direct the opening ceremony.
