Liang Yunquan, 66, is a ferryman who has rescued 22 people in the Duliu river in the past 47 years. He has also persuaded many people who wanted kill themselves by jumping into the river to abandon the idea. Liang became a ferryman when he was 19 years old.
Liang said he had saved officers, girls and children. Though he hasn’t got much in return, he has no regrets. “We should be grateful to what others do for us. I was an orphan and the villagers brought me up,” said Liang. “I really appreciate this kindness, so I rescue people to show my gratitude.”
