
Starting from 2009, the government of Harbin began to protect the ecological environment of Alejin Island wetland. The park officially opened in 2014. Since then, more people have come here for exercise and recreation.
Early in Yuan Dynasty, a post had been set up here. People used sled dogs for transportation. As a result, it was used to be known as the "Dog Island." In 2011, the government officially changed its name to Alejin Island, which is closely related to the city name of Harbin. And the name of "Dog Island" is still using.
