ZHENGZHOU, Aug. 7-- A woman suspected of murdering a child out of jealousy in central China's Henan Province has been detained, the local procuratorate said Friday.
Li Xiuling, 52, allegedly strangled her neighbor's five-year-old son to death and buried him in her garden in Haocun Village, Xinxiang County because she was jealous of the healthy boy while her own bedridden grandson suffered from muscular atrophy, according to the county's procuratorate.
Previous media reports said that Wang Minghan, the victim, disappeared when he was playing near his doorstep at 6 p.m. on July 8. Only his slippers were found at the scene.
The news of the missing boy attracted national attention. People shared the boy's photo via instant messaging service WeChat and Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, to help find him.
A procurator said Li admitted that she lured the boy to her home and killed him, and she felt regretful about her actions.
