LANZHOU, Sept. 1 -- Explosions at a fireworks plant in northwest China on Tuesday afternoon have left one dead and six injured, authorities said.
Two explosions occurred between 3:11 p.m. and 3:23 p.m. on Tuesday at a fireworks plant in Longnan City, Gansu Province.
The six injured are being treated at hospitals and authorities have opened an investigation into the accident.
The plant is among seven companies where the country's work safety watchdog had found safety hazards in May and production had been suspended.
Witnesses said the blasts also damaged houses nearby and smog was seen billowing out of the plant.
