A mother put a yellow outdoor headband around her son’s head, while doctors, nurses and stuff members from local red-cross committee were standing in silent tribute to the man on the morning of Sept. 4. The yellow headband was the most favorite thing of Ye Xue when he was alive.
Ye loved to travel and was public-spirited. He was a volunteer in the rescue work of the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008. He was diagnosed with glioma and his condition kept worsening even if he received a surgery.
Ye was determined to donate his healthy organs, a liver and a pair of kidneys, after death. Tearful as they were, Ye's parents accepted their son’s requirement.
In order to protect Ye's organs, the hospital applied costly medicines and devices like albumin and imported stomach tube, but Ye's parents declined a free offer from the hospital.
Ye's parents signed the Human Organ Donation Application three days after her son's death and Ye was able to save three people's lives who were in critical conditions.
According to the hospital, the liver from Ye has been transplanted to a patient with liver failure. There were only two or three days left if the patient did not get treated in time.
"We support every decision of my son," said Ye's father, "It seems like that my son's life continues through organ donation."
Learning that his grandson donated organs, Ye's grandfather said that he will also donate his organs after death.
According to Ye's father, they will make a sea burial for their son because "Ye always seeks for freedom. We decided to let him return to the sea and he could travel around the world."
