LONDON, Sept. 18 -- China will work with Britain to deepen the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong said Thursday.
Liu said this when meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron.
She said that Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Britain next month, the first by a Chinese president to Britain in 10 years with great historic significance for the future development of the China-Britain ties.
Liu believes that through the joint efforts of both countries, Xi's visit will definitely be successful.
Since the China-Britain mechanism for high-level cultural exchanges was established three years ago, it has played an important role in guiding, planning and promoting the people-to-people exchanges between both countries and yielded positive results, Liu said.
China is willing to work with Britain to keep improving the dialogue mechanism so that it can make positive contribution to enhancing the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, she added.
Cameron said this year is a "golden year" for the development of the Britain-China relationship and Xi's visit will usher bilateral relationship into a "golden era."
Britain attaches great importance to Xi's visit and will work closely with China and make full preparation to ensure a complete success for the visit, Cameron said.
Britain will continue to strengthen the exchanges and cooperation with China in economy, culture and education, Cameron said.
