Wang Juan, 19, lost her legs in a car accident at the age of 5 in Xinye county, in central China's Henan province. However, by overcoming life’s difficulties and frustrations, the strong girl realized her dream of studying at university. Her strong will and optimistic life attitude have influenced many people around her.
"I was little when I was in the accident. It’s really unexpected that I’ve been able to come this far and I really cherish what I have today," said Wang calmly when being interviewed in Shangqiu University in Henan province.
On August 29, alone and with her luggage, Wang appeared for admission registration in Shangqiu University, which immediately caught the attention of the teachers and students in the school. "She was just so independent" was the first impression that she gave people.
If the accident had not happened, Wang would have lived a much more routine life with her parents. The car accident not only took away her legs, but destroyed her family completely. Her mother could not accept her daughter’s disability and committed suicide. Her father also left home without returning.
Living with her grandparents, Wang learned to be strong from a young age. Step by step, she can not only took care of herself, but also helped her grandparents with the housework.
"Destiny abandoned me, but I can't abandon myself," said Wang. After wearing out 6 pairs of crutches, she decided to walk by hands.
After 12 years of hard study, she was finally admitted by Shangqiu University to study human resources.
Hearing about Wang's story, people came to university to donate money and provide support. However, Wang declined the help. “I have everything except for legs. I can handle university life by myself," said Wang.
