Jean de Miribel was a professor at the Xi'an International Studies University (XISU). He died at the age of 96 in Xi'an, northwest China's Shaanxi Province at about 2.p.m on Oct. 10, 2015. According to his will, his body was donated to the medical school of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) to advance medical education and research work.
Teachers and students of XISU and XJTU and Miribel's friends and relatives attended the donor memorial ceremony commemorating Jean de Miribel on Oct. 14, 2015. Miribel, born in 1919, began to teach at XISU in September 1976 and since then he had been working in Xi'an, dedicating to teaching students majoring French for 39 years. In 2014, he won the title of "Good Man in China".
Miribel had been strict about his job as a language teacher and paid close attention to the improvement of the teachers’ professional skills, according to Wang Feng, vice president of XISU.
Miribel, a fan of Chinese culture, studied the history of Shaanxi Province and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and completed many related works.
He funded more than 40 Chinese students to pursue their studies abroad in several decades. He led a simple life and in his later years used all his savings to found the Miruizhe Fellowship and supported the poor students in the mountainous region of Shiquan county, Shaanxi Province.
