On November 29, Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Paris to attend the opening ceremony of the Climate Change Conference at the invitation of French President Francois Hollande and Chairman of the Climate Change Conference Laurent Fabius.
Xi will deliver a speech and explain Beijing's global climate governance views. He will have meetings with other national leaders to discuss bilateral relations and to jointly promote the Paris agreement negotiations.
The conference is a landmark for the United Nations General Assembly, shouldering a historic mission to resolve climate change after 2020, which will impact human development.
It's the first time for China's top leader to attend the UN Climate Change Conference. All parties in attendance are awaiting to hear from Xi's proposals.
On several occasions in the past three years, Xi has expounded on Beijing's commitment to countering climate change. The green development concepts were proposed for China's 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) at the Fifth Plenum of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China last October. All these are in conformity with the global climate governance.
Moreover, Beijing has adopted measures to promote energy conservation and to establish a "China Climate Change Fund for South-South Cooperation" that establishes international cooperation on climate change governance.
China's proposals should inject new momentum that would help promote the global climate governance in fairness for reasonable, comprehensive and balanced progress.
