Beijing will start construction of 9 new subway lines with a combined length of 193.4 kilometers in December, the municipality authorities announced on Wednesday.

Plus the over 100 kilometers of lines already under construction, it is expected that the city will have a subway system of 900 kilometers by the year 2020, or, one metro station in every 700 to 1,000 meters in its downtown area, according to the plan.
