Dec. 22 is Winter Solstice, also known as the Dongzhi Festival in China. It is a Chinese custom to eat dumplings on this day. In Zhengzhou, 300 volunteers delivered 6,000 portions of dumplings to sanitation workers, construction workers, traffic policemen and other street workers.
In the early morning, hundreds of volunteers and dozens of taxis gathered in Zhengzhou, ready to boil and deliver the dumplings to different locations.
This “warm winter” event has been held for four years. This year, 27 locations were set up for boiling the dumplings. “Compared to last year, we’ve had a major increase in the number of people participating in this event. Last year we delivered 5,300 shares of dumplings; this year we increased to 6,000. Besides people working on the streets, we also deliver our dumplings to children and seniors at welfare houses. We hope all the recipients can feel the warmth we are sending to them,” said Song Wei, the person in charge of the event.
